One of the great things about using WordPress.org for your blog is the ability to add WordPress Plugins.
According to Wikipedia, the “WordPress plugins architecture allows users to extend the features and functionality of a website or blog. WordPress has over 50,316 plugins available, each of which offers custom functions and features enabling users to tailor their sites to their specific needs. These customizations range from search engine optimization, to client portals used to display private information to logged in users, to content management systems, to content displaying features, such as the addition of widgets and navigation bars.”
I want to share some of my favorite plugins that I use all the time. But first, let’s talk about how to add plugins to your WordPress.org blog.
The easiest way to add new WordPress plugins is from your WordPress dashboard. Simply hover over the “Plugins” link and select Add New.
From the Add Plugins page, use the search on the top right to find they type of plugin you are looking for. In the image below, I am searching for a way to deal with members on my blog. If you find a plugin that might do the trick, click on “More Details” to learn more about it. Then once you have settled on the right plugin click “Install Now” and then “Activate” and you are ready to get started. Once you activate the plugin, it will appear on your WordPress dashboard.
You can also add WordPress plugins by searching the WordPress.org Plugins page, downloading the plugin and then uploading it to your site on the “Add Plugins” page.
